Credit Collection Services

As plastic continues to become the major source of purchasing power, many businesses are jumping on the trend and offering their own lines of credit to customers. Doing so can help businesses to get more sales, and compete with other companies that are offering these same services. In order to do so successfully, you'll need to have a method set up to manage these accounts.

Credit and collection services can be an essential part of any business, whether big or small. In order to stay competitive you may find it necessary to extend credit to your clients, but at the same time you must be able to avoid letting these accounts become long overdue. The longer they go without payment, the more likely it is that these accounts will become uncollectable and thus will result in you losing money on the deals. While you won't want to extend the credit so much that your capital is tied up for quite some time, you'll also want to be sure that you're fair in your decisions and can give extensions to those in need.

In order to avoid these losses, you'll want to have a collection method in place so that you know how to handle each of these accounts in various stages. For example, you may wish to implement reminder calls when the account is just one day past due, or if you have a customer that has a history of being late. These calls can be handled in a friendly fashion, and let your customers know that you are keeping track of their accounts while providing a friendly reminder. You can use mail as well as the telephone to contact delinquent customers, and turn them over to collection agencies when you find you're unable to collect on your own.

Another method that can significantly decrease the number of problems that you have with clients is learning how to evaluate a credit application. Many problems that can occur with lines of credit can be avoided or eliminated completely with a thorough scan of and educated decision based on the information contained in a credit application. For example, if the client has a work history showing a very short period of time on multiple jobs, they're more likely to have trouble paying their bills at some point than someone that has a consistent job history and has been at the same job for a significant period of time.

Implementing various policies for the application approval process and collections procedures can help your business to save a great deal of money. It can significantly cut down on the number of accounts that become uncollectable, and help you to continue to bring in new business.
